Waiting At The End of the Line by Jack Norton and Kitty Norton

Close Your Eyes And Picture Al Jolson [VIDEO]

Sometimes when I’m tryin’ to write a song with Kitty, I close my eyes and feel my spirit leave my body. My brain goes blank and my soul floats up, up, up and away. I blink to try to get my surroundings, but I’m lost and keep floating. Eventually I land on some crowded street corner. Jazz playing off in the distance, sweet and hot. A newsboy hollers, “Extra! Extra! Have you heard the news?” The clippity clop sounds of horse hooves on streets made of brick.

I blink a few more times wondering where I am. I see some chorus girls shuffling their way down an alley to the backdoor of an old vaudeville hall. Catch a poster: Al Jolson is singing tonight.

I put my pen down on the paper, keep my eyes closed, and try to listen to the song…

Cheers,
Jack
