Jesus Met The Woman At The Well [VIDEO]
Jesus met the woman at the well. For the life of me I don’t remember how this song came into my head. I feel like I read some of the lyrics as scraps from an old book of field hollers and slave chants.
Jesus met the woman at the well. In the book of John, 4th chapter, 4th through 26th verse you can read all about it. But I doubt the slaves had the luxury to do so. So how did they learn this song?
What is this song? Reverend Gary Davis says he wrote it, but that’s a lie, it’s an ancient song. Timeless really. Maybe one of the Disciples first hummed this tune. Who knows? The bigger picture is how are we gonna make sure this tune stays around for the rest of all time?
Jesus met the woman at the well. It ain’t gonna be pushed by any algorithms, and if things keep going the way they are, the old book of field hollers and slave chants will be destroyed, lost for all time. Lessons are never learned, time rolls on, and history just keeps repeating itself.
I recorded this back in 2002 (or so), during a time when I was listening to too much Tom Waits. I apologize in advance. These visuals were shot at some county fair we played. Somewhere. Sometime. Who knows? Time rolls on.
All I know is that Jesus met the woman at the well. And He told her everything she’d ever done.
See ya again real soon: if the good Lord’s willin’, and the creek don’t rise.
Cheers,
Jack
